Last Saturday, North Korea canceled the obligation to use masks and other social distancing rules with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declaring victory over Corona, three months after it first acknowledged the outbreak of the Corona virus in the country.

Kim Jong-il chaired a meeting on the coronavirus last Wednesday and ordered the lifting of the maximum anti-coronavirus measures in May, adding that North Korea should maintain a “strong steel barrier to the fight against the epidemic.”

In light of the transition to a normal system in the country, and the fight against the epidemic from a supreme system, as North Korea abolished the mandatory wearing of masks and other rules in all countries except for the borders, according to the North Korean News Agency.

At the same time, North Korea recommended that people with respiratory symptoms should use masks, urging people to be vigilant against “unnatural things” that Pyongyang has described as the cause of infection.

North Korea blamed the coronavirus outbreak on strange matters near its southern border, with the North Korean leader’s sister vowing “mortal revenge” for causing the disease to spread.

Anti-North Korean government opponents and those living in South Korea for decades have been flying balloons in the sky carrying anti-North Korean leaflets, with food, medicine, money and sometimes other things.

North Korea did not say exactly how many people have contracted the coronavirus, due to the lack of means to conduct widespread testing.

With the daily reporting of the number of injured, the number rose to 4.77 million, and North Korea has not recorded any new cases since the end of last month.

North Korea’s announcement regarding the coronavirus comes despite there being no known treatment program. Instead, it says it has relied on lockdowns and medicines produced inside the country.

And infectious disease experts are skeptical of North Korea’s claims about progress in the Corona virus, noting the lack of clear and independent data.
